Disappearing Act

Watch closely.  There stands a somewhat goofy aging man with a crazy dream.  See how he practices, fails, tries again.  Notice how circumstance pushes him into the company of Masters.  Examine how he is lifted up as his crazy dream becomes reality... up, up, and... gone.

It occurred to me that it must seem that way.  I was "checking in" at least every other week for a time before my first magic performance.  Then, with a tip of the hat to everyone who got me there... POOF! Gone, for over a month now.

It's not that my act was a "one and done" piece.  I've actually been quite busy, fixing what needed adjustment in the act (you never know how things will really play without an audience), and rehearsing new material.  I've also been working on my marketing materials, as I head after the next goal... by June, I intend to have one show a month booked till the end of the year.

Listen to me... it's like I have some idea what the hell I'm doing.  In truth, the fact that I DON'T know what the hell I'm doing is my strength, because it makes me at least smart enough to know that I need to ask advice of those who do have a clue.

As I evolve, I've felt that this blog, not even a year old, needs to evolve too.  For instance, I realize you can only stomach so much upper middle-age introspection... God knows that I started boring myself with the solo pieces months ago.  It's time for something new.

I have made great friends in the magic community this past year, amazing teachers, wise mentors.  I can safely say that all of them have forgotten more about the magic arts than I'll ever learn.  So, since I'm constantly bothering them for advice, I decided it might be interesting for you to meet some of them.  It's certainly fascinating to me when I discover the paths people take to become a Magician.  The journeys, while often similar, are also wildly different, the inspirations diverse, the opinions... well, we all have opinions, don't we?

Beginning with my next blog, I'll be shifting to a "and now, a few moments with" format.  I have questions, they have answers, and hopefully you'll be entertained by both.  Oh, and to prove I'm not fooling around, my first guest will be Larry Hass, Dean of the Magic & Mystery School.

So, watch closely.   There's something to see here.
